- Tetrahydromagnolol is one of the primary metabolites of magnolol, which is a highly bioactive lignan found in the bark of Magnolia officinalis. When magnolol is taken orally, it becomes metabolized by various enzyme systems, which then yields tetrahydromagnolol as one of the primary metabolites. Tetrahydromagnolol is even more bioactive, and most interestingly becomes a much more potent and selective cannabinoid CB2 agonist!
- Magnolia bark is known for its ability to induce relaxation, boost mood and support healthy inflammatory response. These effects can be attributed to two different compounds, magnolol which is more active on the endocannabinoid side, and honokiol which is more active on the GABAergic side. When these compounds are hydrogenated, their respective affinities drastically increase.
